History of Nyingma Buddhism
History of Nyingma Buddhism
- Nyingma (founded 8th century A.D.)
- Kagyu (founded in the early 11th century)
- Sakya (founded in 1073 A.D.)
- Gelug (founded in 1409 A.D.)
The four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism differ in their size, political ethos, emphasized practices, and of course, lineage. Unlike the other three major schools, supporters of the Nyingma tradition rarely held political power in Tibet, generally preferring to remain at a distance from Tibetan political concerns. Traditionally, the Nyingma had no centralized authority. It is only since the Chinese invasion of Tibet that the Dalai Lama politely requested that the Nyingma followers recognize someone to represent them within the Tibetan government-in-exile. Other then that, the Nyingma tradition remains politically decentralized. Decisions are often made by a community of the senior practitioners within a given locale. Nyingma followers are historically distinguished from other schools of Buddhism by their categorization of the spiritual path into nine progressively more subtle yanas, or vehicles, and the unique ninth vehicle called Dzogchen, or the “Great Perfection.” Within the Nyingma are also two distinct communities of monastics and lay tantric practitioners (Tib. ngakpa).
While the other three major schools have traditionally recognized spiritual and political heads:
- The Dalai Lama of the Gelug school (the newest school, having the largest population)
- The Karmapa of the Kagyu school
- The Sakya Trizin of the Sakya school
- Dudjom Rinpoche (c. 1904–1987), served from the 1960s until his death.
- Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche (c. 1910–1991), served from 1987 until his death.
- Penor (Pema Norbu) Rinpoche (1932–2009) served from 1991 until retirement in 2003.
- Mindroling Trichen Rinpoche (c. 1930–2008), served from 2003 until his death.
- Trulshik Rinpoche (1923–2011). Selected after Chatral Rinpoche declined the position.
Palyul Monastery
Like all schools of Tibetan Buddhism, the Nyingma school recognizes those who make significant and precious contributions to the teachings of the Buddha. Among those so recognized by the Nyingma school are:
Jigme Lingpa (1730–1798) and the Longchen Nyingthig

Grady Martin: Decca Rockabilly Session Ace

His chops still resonate, even when we don't know it's him, from the opening guitar line in Roy Orbison's Oh Pretty Woman and the precise R&B comping on Brenda Lee's 1958 classic Rocking Around the Christmas Tree to the unique acoustic Tex Mex guitar sound he achieves in Marty Robbins' classic El Paso from 1960. To find a session guitar player with the range of experience possessed by Grady Martin is difficult, throughout the 1950's and 60's Martin was continually called on to provide the his innate sense of rhythm, precise playing and production experience to the widest range of material within the parameters of Nashville country music. In the post I would like to foreground a few of Martin's lesser know efforts as a consummate session guitarist in the rockabilly style for Decca Records during the 1950's.
The recordings I have selected here are all session pieces in which
Martin provides superb rhythm backup and at least one solo. A few are
actually not Decca recordings, a testament not only to the respect
Martin carried within the genre but also among musicians in general.
The majority feature his rockabilly style that most are familiar with in
the songs he is featured on for the Johnny Burnette Trio recordings for in 1956. Grady's guitar work is easily identifiable on many of the songs recorded during these sessions, and Paul Burlison's role was minimal, well documented here.
Martin's work with The Johnny Burnette Trio is so definitive that in
many ways it might be said he creates a whole rockabilly guitar style
that he also showcases on many of the recordings here. While not
trying to diminish the contributions of James Burton, Scotty Moore, Cliff Gallup and Hal Harris, Grady is the most prolific force in the creation of a rockabilly guitar style.
1)Red Foley - Midnight - This is one of Martin's earlier recordings, well before his rockabilly style emerged some four years later. Nonetheless, a nice guitar break in a blues vein at 1:22.
2) Red Sovine - Juke Joint Johnny - This is the best example of Sovine's experimentation with a rockabilly style with a Texas swing flavor. Martin is flawless in his backup role.
3) Mimi Roman - Little Lovin is a completely forgotten rockabilly gem from 1956. Grady's style here is unmistakable and his break at 1:05 reminiscent of some of his work with with Johnny Burnette Trio.
4) Brenda Lee - Bigelow 6200 - Even though Grady isn't given much space on the break his intro licks are vintage on this excellent cut by Lee.
5)Buddy Holly - Modern Don Juan - superb solo here by Martin at 1:35 his sound is perfect on this, one of the few cuts he backed Holly on.
6) Ronnie Self - Big Fool - Another excellent break by Grady at 1:08 on the classic by one of my all time favorites, Missouri's own, Ronnie Self.
7) Johnny Carroll -Carroll's incredible Hot Rock is one a definitive rockabilly cut, inspiring many subsequent covers. Martin has two solos here but his intro shines. Crazy Crazy Lovin - is another rockabilly classic, as all the Decca recording Carrol recorded. Grady's solo begins at 1:00.
8) Tex Williams - Let's Go Rockabilly - Yes, just about every country singer recorded at least one rockabilly song in 56 or 57. Very nice solo by Martin at 1:14 who also finishes with a flourish.
9) Jimmy Lloyd -Where the Rio de Rosa Flows: While Grady and Hank Garland team up on Lloyd's better know rockabilly recordings I Got a Rocket in My Pocket and Your'e Gone Baby, Martin handles the solo alone here beginning at 1:33.
10) Chuck Bowers - Till My Baby Comes Home is a unique and somewhat hybrid song that combines elements of straight ahead country, rockabilly and commercial pop. Martin has a nice solo at 1:15.
11) Roy Hall - Diggin That Boogie - While Hall's fame comes from having recorded this Dave William song, Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On, before Jerry Lee Lewis this is a fabulous rockabilly effort and Martin blazes at 1:30 with a solo with a perfect amount of echo. Hall's Three Alley Cats features both Martin and Hank Garland, Marin solos at 1:18.
12) Don Woody - Bird Dog - Martin is in classic form here from his signature rockabilly intro to this fantastic solo beginning at 0.48.
13) Wayne Walker - All I Can Do is Cry is a from 1956 features Martin in more of backup role, but the overall sound is perfect for the song.
14) Johnny Horton- I'm Comin Home - Great cut by Horton that highlights Martin's low string work with a tasteful solo at 0.49.
15) Grady Martin - When My Dreamboat Comes Homes - Recorded in 1956 By Grady and His Slew Foot Five, this unique instrumental has a superb solo by Martin in rockabilly style beginning at 0.45
1)Red Foley - Midnight - This is one of Martin's earlier recordings, well before his rockabilly style emerged some four years later. Nonetheless, a nice guitar break in a blues vein at 1:22.

The Seven Mayan Prophecies

The first news is that the Mayan date of 600 BC, at which time appeared symbols carved in rocks. In the year 300 AD begins the development of the Maya, beings who dedicate their lives to study and record the galaxy. Mayans built their beautiful cities, its places and its ceremonial pyramids south of Mexico, in the province of Yucatan, Honduras and Guatemala. Etched in Stone left their posts over time, the path of the Sun, Moon, Venus and the path that humanity should follow to get to the growth of Light and the New Age, and not for materialism and self-destruction. After almost 600 years of intense building activity and an astonishing scientific development, in the year 830 AD, the whole Mayan people disappeared voluntarily and knowingly. Abandon all, leaving only a few guardians of the legacy they left us. Prophecies The 7 are supported by scientific studies and religious about how the universe works.
1st PROPHECY
The 1st prophecy says that since 1999, it remains for us only 13 years to accomplish the change of attitude and awareness, so that we can deviate from the path of destruction to which we advance. The Mayans knew that our Sun (Kinich-Ahau), is a living being that breathes and every so often it synchronizes itself with the massive body which exists in the galaxy, and to receive a blaze of light from the center of this, shines more intensely, producing on its surface calls solar flares.
For the Mayans, the processes of respiration of the galaxy are cyclical and never change, what changes is the consciousness of man that passes through them always in a process to perfection. They predicted that since the year 3013 BC to 5125 years in the future, ie on Saturday, 22/12/2012, Sun, receiving a strong synchronization radius from the center of the galaxy, would change its polarity and produce a gigantic flaming radiant. In this period humanity will have to be prepared to go through the doors that the Mayans left us, transforming modern civilization, based on fear, on a vibration much higher in harmony. Just as an individual can go through the door that avoids the great cataclysm that will suffer the planet, to start a new era, a 6th cycle of the Sun of 5125 years.

2nd PROPHECY
3rd PROPHECY
The
3rd prophecy says that a heat wave increases the temperature of the
earth causing climate change, geological and social magnitude
unprecedented and astonishing speed. man contributed
greatly to global warming: desflorestamos the planet, contaminate the
air with emissions our cars, we transform the planet into a large pen. Our factories send into the atmosphere tons of toxic gases, soil and water are poisoned. We hurricanes, earthquakes, droughts and prolonged rains. All this will cause a strong impact on the economy because there will be shortages, lack of water, food, electricity. Prices for these products will rise, which will generate hunger and social unrest. Increase the number of pests, insects and tropical diseases like malaria.
4th Prophecy
This
prophecy says that global warming caused by man's predatory conduct and
greater activity of the Sun, will accelerate the melting of polar ice. Mayans were based on the spin of the planet Venus 584 days to make its calculations solar. They
left recorded in his "Codex drede" that every 117 spins of Venus,
marked every time the planet appear at the same point of the sky, the
sun undergoes changes and appear large spots or eruptions of solar wind.
Also warned that every 1,872,000 Kines, ie 5125
years, even bigger changes occur and when this happens, humanity must be
prepared, therefore, is an omen of doom and great changes. Greenhouse
Effect caused mainly by harmful action of man, is causing changes in
climate and increasing the temperature of the seas. The ice
of the polar caps is melting rapidly, raising sea levels, which produce
flooding in coastal lands, and morphological changes of the continents. We must guide our actions positively and grow with the difficulties we encounter. All predictions are for a change of consciousness, because the universe is generating all these processes, so that expandamos in the galaxy.
5th PROPHECY
Says
that all systems based on fear upon which our civilization is based,
will become both the planet and the human being, giving way to a new
reality of harmony. systems fail to humans face up himself,
so that he realizes the need to reorganize society and continue on the
path of evolution that leads us to understand creation. Almost
all the world's economies are in crisis and information control system
can collapse, with increasing solar activity, which can damage
satellites. With solar flares, we received an unusual dose
of ultraviolet rays that expands the upper atmosphere, reducing the
pressure that exists on satellites that are at low altitudes. economics and communications systems are fragile and interconnected with each other. The power grid is sensitive to solar flares. She is the backbone of our society. religious systems based on a God who instills fear, also come into crisis. It
would create a unique spiritual path common to all humanity that will
end all limits established among the different ways of seeing God.
6th PROPHECY
The
6th Mayan prophecy says that the coming years will see a comet whose
trajectory will endanger the very existence of human beings. Mayans
saw comets as agents of change, who came to put in balance the existing
movement, so that certain structures are transform, allowing the
evolution of the collective consciousness. All things have a
rightful place, all circumstances, even the most adverse, are perfect
for generating more understanding about life and to develop awareness of
creation. Therefore, humans are constantly facing unexpected situations that generate distress. This is a way for him to reflect on their relationships with others and the world. So many experiences over many lives, he will understand the natural laws of reason and creation. To the Mayans, is the presence of God in all life forms and their presence is infinite. Mayans
always studied and recorded events from heaven and that his warning is
to prevent mankind from danger, for not knowing the orbits and periods
of large waste that intersect with the trajectory of the earth. For
a modern man, find out in advance large asteroids that could cause its
extinction and then divert them, would be a great achievement and
crucial fact that should bind us as a species.
7th PROPHECY
She tells us of the time when the solar system in its cyclical turning, leaving the night to enter the dawn of the galaxy. Speaks
also, that in the 13 years ranging from 1999 to 2012, the light emitted
from the galaxy's center, will synchronize all living beings and allow
them to agree voluntarily with their internal transformation, producing
new realities, which will everyone the opportunity to change and break its limitations, through thought. The additional energy of the beam emitted by Runacku (the galactic center), activates the genetic code of divine origin, in humans who are at high frequency vibration. Ability to read the thoughts of humans, totally revolutionize civilization. All boundaries disappear, the lie will end forever because nobody can hide anything, will begin an era of transparency and light that can not be hidden by any violence or negative emotion. We understand that we are part of a single giant organism and we will connect with the planet, with each other, with our Sun and the entire galaxy. All humans understand that the Kingdoms Mineral, Vegetable and Animal and spread all matter in the universe, from an atom to a galaxy, are living beings with consciousness evolution. From Saturday 22/12/2012, all relationships are based on tolerance and flexibility, because the other man feel like part of himself.

How Music Royalties and Performing Rights Organizations Work
Authors, composers and publishers have the right, but not the obligation, to register with Performing Rights Organizations (a.k.a Collection Societies, internationally) for the collection of royalties. The primary function of PROs is the inter-mediation between copyright holders and entities who wish to use their music publicly (ex. a business establishment). This means that they are your lobbyist, your “agents”, and most importantly, your royalty collectors.
Main ways that royalties are collected and distributed
- Pay per Play: when there is enough analytical information, the society has the option to pay-per-play, that is, actually pay royalties due for every single time a song is used.
For example, because Soundreef supplies the users of music with technologies that allow us to track what is actually played, we have the playlist data needed to accurately and fairly divide royalties among our members.
- Sample: when there is no control over what the users of blanket licenses play, it becomes logically impossible to accurately determine the exact play-count of such vast repertoire (think of all the retail stores and restaurants in the US alone and how they choose to broadcast).
For example, let’s say a Bob’s Store pays his local PRO a blanket license for the right to play music to create a nice environment for his clients. He then fills his iPod with thousands of tracks to play in his store. Because the PRO in this example does not have a way to accurately track what Bob has in his iPod or how many times he plays each song, they must resort to sampling. In layman’s terms, this PRO will request some information from a small sample of the market regarding playlists and scheduling and then plug that into a formula that the PRO’s board deems fair. This formula tells them how to split the royalties among its members.
Clearly, this strategy can become a problem particularly for non-mainstream musicians, who although may have a strong niche, local or cult following, may get overlooked by the PRO’s sampling and/or chosen formula. Some will get what they actually deserve, some might get more, some will get less, and some won’t get any at all. Why?
Because the PRO does not have (or doesn’t want to have) the capability to calculate royalty distribution accurately.
International Royalty Collection:
The Unclear Travel Path of Royalties from Country To Country
When you consider the problems and inefficiencies that many PROs unfortunately already suffer from thanks to sampling and administration, the mental map of the travels your international royalties make is even scarier. Not only was there already an uncertainty in the way the initial calculation was made, but now it is also passed through another set of hands … So this brings forth the question… Do you know where your foreign royalties are?
Time for Improvement
By now we are all accustomed to using technology and internet tools to improve our efficiency and reach precision. But a lot of these technologies didn’t exist at the time when many procedures or business models were born.
Sampling as a means of royalty distribution calculation is not purposefully evil, it’s just outdated. The reason the PROs sample a small part of the market and not all or even most of the “users”, is that it would be immensely inefficient and costly.
And costly processes means the need for higher fees, and higher fees means less bottom line, and…well, you see where I’m going with this.
So the answer is new processes and the exploitation of technologies at our disposal for a more efficient, analytical and fair distribution.
This is why we commit to not only applying the software we developed to change the way the industry works, but also to continuously evolve and implement the latest technologies available
